I'm Doing It in a Dress

I've been busy this past week putting the finishing touches on a hike that my brother (Jeff), and Dad (Dale) have been preparing to do. You see, we've been planning this 60+km hike on the Berg Lake Trail in the Canadian Rocky Mountains for a little while, but when I arrived back in Canada after WDS in the middle on July, I had something up my sleeve.

So I convinced them to join me.

A Day in Dala - Yangon, Myanmar / Burma

I realized quickly that any and all adventures in Burma are best left unplanned. It was a recurring theme during my entire time there in March / April 2012.

random mid morning stroll down Strand Road and towards a bit of commotion near the Pansodan ferry terminal along the Yangon river. Minutes later, I was on a ferry heading across the river, with a young guide named Joga (rhymes with yoga).

Travel Photo Roulette Round #45: “Surreal”

We have a winner!

A few exhaustive travel days, and the past 3 mornings up before 5 to shoot photos meant I was in a dream state already. Early this morning, 12600 monks descended on Chiang Mai to collect alms for the flood victims in the south. An entire street was blocked off as waves of orange robes came down from one end to the other. This dreamy shot taken with a lensbaby summed up how the morning felt. Surreal. It wasn't until days later that I was able to look back at the enormity of the situation and process it for myself.

It's been a long time coming, but I hereby present you with a new round of Travel Photo Roulette once again. I actually won the first ever round of Travel Photo Roulette, launched by Jeremy over at Living the Dream almost 2 years ago with a photo of a camel's ugly mug. More recently, Travis from Flashpacker HQ choose my dreamy photo of monks in the street in Chiang Mai for the last contest "Once In a Lifetime"

Slick Street Drumming - Bangkok

I understand that not everyone can just slam sticks on buckets and show you what's up. Fortunately, this guy can.

With little more than a couple of drumsticks, three battered pails and a hunk of metal by his side, he wailed away outside Bangkok's famous MBK Center. Check out the short clip I recorded of him below...

That beautiful beachfront resort you're staying at? Well, where you're sleeping was probably once a jungle, or at least something wilder than your semi-hard mattress.

Taken near the sleepy seaside village of Kuala Penyu, this photo is just one example of the rapid development taking place in Malaysian Borneo.

Street Monk - Chiang Mai

Not saying it's because of a hard-knock life, but this monk stood out.

It was his Sak Yant tattoo and his deep red robe. A walk showing an unusual uniqueness in a sea of monks, swinging the fabric as he moved. He walked alone, when there were thousands of others around.

I shot this at an event in Chiang Mai where 12600 monks gathered to accept alms for the flood victims in southern Thailand.
