The World Domination Summit and the Un-Photowalk
Earlier this month I attended my third World Domination Summit in sunny Portland, Oregon. Yeah, I said sunny. I've spent about a month there over the past three years, and I think it's only rained once or twice.
But really, you're probably thinking... what's this World Domination Summit thing?
Well I have a couple of ways to answer that for you:
A group of people coming together to ponder the question:
"How do you live a remarkable life in a conventional world?"
and whose core values are
Community
Adventure
Service
The conference and the speakers are a one reason why people come together for WDS every year, but another is all of the attendee-led meetups that happen around the weekend as well.
In the past, there has been a photowalk hosted by Darlene Hildebrandt of Digital Photography School, and when I heard she wouldn't have a chance to do it this year, I jumped at the chance to take the lead.
I enlisted the help of fellow photog Oliver Asis and began dreaming up my own spin on the traditional photowalk. I'd have to, as there were over 100 atendees signed up the week before the conference started and there was no way I could walk through the city with all of them safely.
So I came up with the Un-Photowalk. Instead of leading a group of people through the funky city myself, I'd prime everyone and send them out to tell their own stories and have a little fun while doing it. It didn't hurt that a bit of a street fair called the "Portland Experience" was being put on for our creative enjoyment at the same time, and featured (among other things), a Darth Vader helmet-wearing unicyclist who plays the bagpipes with flames shooting out of them.
Yeah.
I handed out sheets of paper with the following "stories to tell" to everyone to get the creative juices flowing.
1) Faster Than the Eye Can See
2) Size is Overrated
3) Color Me Surprised
4) Not Quite as It Seems
5) Serendipity
6) Cheers!
7) To Eat or Not to Eat
8) A Time for Reflection
9) Adventures of all Shapes
10) Bolder is Better
Here are a few of the photos from the attendees of the #WDS2014 "Un-Photowalk."
These are just a small sample of photos taken. Thanks to everyone who came out, and look forward to seeing you all again at #WDS2015!
