The hands touch the fire before coming back to touch the body in this Hindu ritual. Yangon - Burma / Myanmar

Hands in the Fire - Yangon

Yangon - Burma / Myanmar

Like all good things in Burma / Myanmar, I just stumbled upon this.  Coming from a temple in central Yangon were plumes of smoke and ear-piercingly loud music.  I entered, watched, and took it all in.

In this ritual, one places their hands to the flames, before bringing them back to their face or body.  As the fire made it around the crowd, people clamored to get a spot close.  The music was loud, and the place was in a frenzy.  It was hard not to be overwhelmed.
